Dr. Figliozzi’s main research areas are transportation and logistics modeling and optimization. His current research work deals with the usage of GPS truck data to evaluate and develop freight corridor performance measures, the study of climate change impacts on transportation infrastructure, green fleet replacement models, headway minimization in public transportation operations, the impact of congestion on vehicle routing, the development of algorithms for the time-dependent-stochastic routing, statewide freight modeling, the development of volume –speed functions for traffic assignment models, and the impact of traffic flows on emissions.
Dr. Miguel Figliozzi teaches the junior transportation course and three graduate courses in optimization, modeling and freight/logistics as well as a seminar on transportation research communication. He is a member of the Transportation Research Board Network Modeling Committee and the Transportation Research Board Intermodal Terminal Design Committee. Dr. Figliozzi works in partnership with local, regional, state, and federal transportation organizations, such as Oregon Transportation Research and Education Consortium (OTREC), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), American Trucking Research Institute (ATRI), METRO, TriMet, Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), the Port of Portland, the City of Portland, and PSU Miller foundation for sustainability.
